Getting started

What you need

  • A Mac with macOS 26 or later.
  • An email address. There's no password.

1. Install

Download Loom, open the file and drag Loom to your Applications folder. Loom checks for updates once a day and asks before installing; you can let it install them overnight instead (Settings › Updates).

2. Sign in

Type your email address. Loom sends you an email with a link that works for 15 minutes. Click it on this Mac, or type the 6-digit code from the email into Loom. Every new account starts on the Free plan with $5 of usage.

On the welcome screen you also choose whether to share usage data with us. It's off unless you turn it on.

3. Make your first agent

Start from a ready-made agent, or make a plain one and tell it in your own words what you want. Ready-made agents:

Morning Brief
Every day at 7: your meetings, the weather, what's due and a few headlines.
Research Watch
Mondays and Thursdays at 9: follows a topic and sums up what changed, with a link to every source. It never sends, posts or pays.
Scout
Every day at 6: looks for new listings or changes on pages you care about. It only looks; it never acts.
Tidy a folder
Sorts one folder you choose into subfolders and moves obvious clutter to the Trash.

You can change the name, the schedule and the instructions any time.

4. Decide what it may do

Each agent has Rules (in the agent's settings). For each kind of action, like using the web, changing files, deleting, sending, posting, paying or signing in somewhere new, you choose:

  • Always: it goes ahead.
  • Ask me: it asks you each time.
  • Never: it's refused.

When an agent asks, the question appears under Needs you on Home and in the sidebar, with Allow once, Always allow or Not now.

Routines run on their own, often while you're away, so they can't stop to ask. If a step needs your OK, a routine skips it and tells you afterwards.

5. Keep an eye on it

  • Home shows what needs you, what ran and anything that didn't.
  • Each agent has a dashboard of widgets it keeps up to date, a Library of what it made, and its Memory. Pin any widget to Home.
  • Press Run now to run a routine straight away.
  • Routines keep running when Loom's window is closed. Anything that needs you waits until you open it.

Next: connect Google, folders and websites.
